So’s your Mom

Posted by Solly on May 14, 2008

It’s no secret I’m not a fan of Carlos Delgado From his refusing to stand during “God Bless America” to shunning the Mets in favor in the Marlins back in 2005 to admitting he was “bored” during last year’s collapse, he’s not exactly on my Festivus card list. It also makes me wonder who would represent a guy like that. Wonder no more. May I present David Sloane.

Retard? Short bus? So’s your Mom? Are you kidding me? I thought Boras was bad but I’ll take greed over stupidity any day of the week. Hey Davey, here’s some free advice: if you’re going to get in a pissing match with a New York beat writer, you might want to keep it off the record. Oh and you might want to tell your only client to stay a bit more focused on the field because his glove work is making Ryan Howard look like Keith Hernandez.

Thoughts So Far

Posted by mooseheadjack13 on May 14, 2008

Seems like it was about time The Blind Guy wrote something, so here are my thoughts on a whole lot of things in general.

np: Take a Bow – Madonna (does this make me gay? Heard this in a CVS in Pennsylvania over the weekend and remembered that there is at least one Madonna song I like. And don’t act like none of you like any Madonna songs, I know better!)

On to sports. The Flyers are down 3-0. That sucks. And I completely blame the NHL. We put one golden boy in Ovechkin out of the playoffs, the NHL is going to make DAMN SURE that we don’t put Crosby out too. Well, that and the Pens appear to be a pretty damn good team. Barring some Mets like collapse of historic proportions, it looks like we are going to get a Detroit-Pittsburgh finals, which should be pretty damn good. Maybe hockey can actually make a comeback. Step one is to get rid of those stupid ass jerseys and go back to the old ones. Step two would be to beg ESPN to pick up hockey again. I mean really, ESPN will show that stupid fucking spelling bee, but not hockey? Come on now. Unless they are trying to free up enough space so they can eventually show EVERY Yankees game in ESPN. I mean watching hockey on VS hasn’t been horrible, but like 15 homes get it in the US, and now since Canada is 0 for forever in getting a team in the finals, I am not even sure I can watch it on the Canadian channel. I still miss hockey on FOX though, my blind ass liked the glowing puck.

np: Animal – Def Leppard (Hysteria remains a great CD, one of those “soundtracks of my youth” CD’s right there with Appetite For Destruction)

So Kyle Kendrick gives up three runs in the first to the Braves, putting him right on the top of my death list for Fantasy Baseball, then appears to have settled down and pitched a nice game. He is going to be the death of me yet. The bigger news is that Lidge actually gave up a run, raising his ERA to 0.50. He has been great for us so far. As for Kendrick, I have him in fantasy baseball and I need to clear room in case I want to bring up Garrett Olson. Its either Kyle Kendrick, Randy Johnson or Manny Parra that I would drop. Kendrick is getting it done with smoke an mirrors, Johnson is 100, but on a good team, and Parra is kinda rough, but he is supposed to be good and I would kind of like to keep him around. So I am not sure what I should do there.

np: Rocket Queen – Guns N’Roses (love this song)

So Tampa Bay is in first place, and we are not talking about football. I am happy for them. They have been SO bad for their whole existence, it will be interesting to see if they can finally turn the corner and become a contender. Not an easy task in the AL East, though Boston is sort of shuffling along, the Yankees remain overrated by everyone on the planet but me, the Blue Jays can’t decide if they want to be good or not, and the Orioles are playing so far over their head they need an air traffic controller to put their hats on. Or something. So if the Rays are going to make a move, it would certainly appear that this is the time to do it. Other than that, what is there really engaging about baseball so far? Seems like there are a lot of teams kind of bunched together. No one has separated themselves from the pack, either good or bad, except the Padres and Mariners. Didn’t see THAT coming. Even Detroit is struggling along right now (and NO they should NOT sign Bonds, fuck that!) but they are only something like 4 games out of first because the rest of that division can’t get their shit together either. Even the NL East is really a tight race, though I completely expect the Phillies to walk away with that. Lets hope the Mets finish May at 9-10 so they will be a .500 team over their last 162 games and the Mets fans can start screaming about firing Willie. I hate the Mets and this makes me happy, so it MUST happen.

np: Nine Lives – Aerosmith (this was an underrated CD)

Ok, other sports, hmmmm NBA, really don’t care. Hoping for another Pistons-Spurs finals just to piss people off. Detroit appears to have its act together after struggling against the Sixers in the first round. I have to pull for Boston because I really hate the Cavs. Well, I hate the LeBron hype. cnnsi.com actually had a story the other day asking if LeBron was underrated. Dear cnnsi.com, when you spend years screaming that this guy is the second coming of Christ, Michael Jordan and Gandhi all in one, it is impossible for him to be UNDERrated. So please shut the fuck up. Thank you, Moose. As long as the Cavs and Lakers lose, I really don’t care who is in the finals, I probably won’t be watching anyway because basketball bores the fuck out of me.

SPYGATE SPYGATE SPYGATE!!!! I still don’t fucking care. End it already. They cheated. All teams do, and if they say they don’t they are fucking lying. The Pats just got caught. Give them a slap on the wrist and lets move the fuck on. Did you know Bret Favre retired? Did you know John Madden is still weeping somewhere? With Favre gone and Vick in jail, who will the Monday night crew spend their entire broadcast verbally fellating? Peyton? Eh. Brady? He plays for the hated Patriots, so I doubt that. Eli? Bambi? Seriously? I love how everyone is saying ELI HAS ARRIVED!!! HE HAS PUT IT ALL TOGETHER!! He had a good half a season when it counted most and they have him in the hall of fame. Yeah I think Eli will get the verbal blowjobs, him and Romo. And I can continue to hate them both and not watch Monday night football.

np: The Unknown Soldier – The Doors (great stuff, even if Morrison was a complete flake)

I think that covers damn near everything. College sports is not even on my radar right now. People are already starting to care about football, but my interest in that is even starting to wane since the Presidents of the colleges are complete fucking morons and refuse any kind of a playoff system, despite it working in every other sport in college. Don’t let a little thing like the facts get in the way of a payday though, you ass clowns. I guess the baseball playoffs will be coming up soon, I still think they are missing the boat with their playoff system. The whole double elimination thing is a pain in the ass and hard as fuck to follow. Just make it a tournament like the basketball tourney, I think baseball does fewer teams, maybe 32, and make each series a best of three. You lose two of three, you go home, you win, you move to the next round in a bracket we can all easily follow. It would do wonders for the tourney, and it may also do wonders for the baseball draft if they insist on showing it. You have a tournament to showcase these players, maybe people will tune in to see if their team drafts these guys.

Or maybe it will still just be Lucky scribbling notes furiously screaming that he has to draft the junior from George Washington Carver High School in Decatur Illinois for his fantasy team because he is a 7th tier sleeper :)

Until next time, remember, no matter what anyone tells you, despite any supposed evidence to the contrary, know deep in your heart one undeniable, inalienable truth:

The Mets and Yankees suck

Cubs getting the Pacific Rim job done.

Posted by Pun on May 14, 2008

According to East Windup Chronicle, The Cubs have signed a supposed “stud” shortstop out of Korea (still in high school) by the name of Lee Hak-ju. (I’m sure there’s a joke for Solly in there, but I’m not sure what it is yet.) The guy who scouted Lee for the Cubs is the same one who scouted Derek Jeter in high school, and he says that Lee has better overall tools than Jeter did at that stage. This is the description from the Chronicle:

Lee is a shortstop from Chungam High School. The paper lists him as being 6′0, 170 lbs., but he’s closer to 6′2 and probably heavier. I saw him practice last week and it’s the only time I’ve seen him play. But as someone still new to the scout game it was a great experience just to watch him. To use the familiar adage, he was a man amongst boys. It was as if an MLB player had stumbled onto a field in rural South Korea and started taking ground balls. The balls just ambled into his glove and his catch and release was so quick — it was a textbook example.

But that glossy description shouldn’t overshadow his arm, which is also clearly big league. I saw him field a ball across his body, and moving toward third. He didn’t stop, he just pulled up a little and threw it on a line to first.

Reports say he is also blazingly fast. His time down the first base line is approximately 4 seconds, which compares with guys like Jose Reyes, Carl Crawford, and Joey Gathright. Add that to the fact that he is left handed, and the Cubs may have their own version of Reyes in the next couple years. It will be interesting to see how fast he moves through the system. Let’s hope it turns out better than the Cubs last Korean project, Hee-Sop Choi.
