Game 4: Scapegoat Willie

Posted by Solly on June 9, 2008

I was going to write a lengthy recap of the game and the series, saying who hit what, how many runners were left on, etc… but after seeing this joke of a team over 4 games, I just don’t have the strength. I’m just going to write about the soon-to-be fired Willie Randolph.

It has to happen now, yes? This team has officially quit on Willie and I don’t want him fired, I want him paroled from Sheashank Prison. I wouldn’t wish this bunch of lazy, lethargic, uninspired bunch on ANY manager. Willie made all the right moves today. He brought in Wagner in the 8th inning of a must-win game. How would he know that Wagner and his Blutarsky-esque ERA of zero. point. three. seven. would fucking implode?

Willie, I like you. You’re a nice guy. You signed the ball the other night and made googily eyes at Mrs. Solly. But your team has completely quit on you and the Wilpons can’t fire the whole team (although you know they’re DYING to 86 that overpaid fuck Beltran) so you have to be the scapegoat. Maybe they’ll respond to someone else but when this kind of talent doesn’t perform for over a full 162 games, changes have to be made.

Enjoy the plane ride home, you fucking jabronis. You just got someone fired.

Game 3: 2-1 Padres. Again. Seriously.

Posted by Solly on June 8, 2008

I’m so fucking disgusted watching this team lose a 3rd straight game to the ham-and-eggers from San Diego, I’m just going to keep this short. 11 runners left on base, 0-9 with RISP tonight, 2-21 in the series so far against world-beaters Josh Banks, Randy Wolf and Cha Seung Baek, the latter sounding like something you get at an Asian massage parlor if you’re a generous tipper. Seriously, when you have Pelfrey, Santana and Perez giving up a combined 3 runs and you can’t win any of the 3, something is seriously wrong. Can someone tell me why Omar feels the need to carry THREE FUCKING CATCHERS when his bench is as thin as it is, with Church going all Eric Lindros? $140M payroll and the starting OF is TATIS BULLSHIT, Monkey and TSTBTASL. Good fucking lord.

30-31, 6.5 out and I can’t believe Pedro is pitching a must-win game in San Diego on June 8th.

PS. No ball tonight, as the Mets apparently left theirs in San Francisco. I’d say they left their hearts too but they never had any to begin with. Way to get out-pitched, out-hit, and out-played by a last place team. Fuckers.

Game 2: Deja Vu all over again

Posted by Solly on June 7, 2008

Another day, another signed ball, another 2-1 Padres win. You may not mess with the Zohan but the Padres did OK with the Johan last night. Not that I would ever say that 2 runs over 6 IP is a bad start but considering he had a 1-0 lead and he gave up RBI singles on 1-2 counts, I would call it disappointing. My problem so far has been the anemic offense. The Mets have been shot down by Josh Banks and Randy Wolf, not exactly Maddux, Peavy or Young. What makes it so frustrating is despite how well they were swinging the bats against the Giants earlier in the week, as most .500 teams do, they follow up putting on a hitting display with the bats going silent. But hey, at least we didn’t lose the game on a dropped fly ball.

Today’s signed ball:

The Randolph Ramblings

Posted by Solly on May 21, 2008

From a recent article in the Bergen Record:

“They don’t like me?” Randolph said. ” ‘We don’t like Willie.’ Wait a minute, why don’t you like me? I don’t get it. Did I do anything to you? If you look at what I’ve done for your club, you should like me a little bit.”

What exactly have you done? You had decent success in 2005, lost a 7 game series to an inferior Cardinals team in 2006, spouted off cliche after cliche during the 2007 collapse, and still don’t have that sense of urgency as your team starts 2008 at a rather unimpressive 22-21.

Randolph isn’t ready to accept the popular notions about his allegedly placid approach to the craft. He believes those notions are hardened by SNY’s selective camerawork.

“They’re the artists, I’m the canvas,” Randolph said. “They paint the picture the way they want to. They want to show me when somebody gives up a home run or somebody makes an error, so they want to see me [using profanity].”

When you discourage Billy Wagner from ripping his teammates in public, you might want to practice what you preach.  Willie, you know who owns SNY, right? The Wilpons… the same duo that pay your check. Keep ripping your bosses in public, Stonewall.  Nothing bad can happen, yes?  Stop complaining about the tv coverage, you sound like a fucking American Idol reject.  Shit man, you’re the manager of a New York professional sports team… you didn’t expect this kind of coverage?

“Is it racial?” Randolph asked. “Huh? It smells a little bit.”

Asked directly if he believes black managers are held to different standards than their white counterparts, Randolph said: “I don’t know how to put my finger on it, but I think there’s something there. Herman Edwards did pretty well here and he won a couple of playoff [games], and they were pretty hard on Herm. Isiah [Thomas] didn’t do a great job, but they beat up Isiah pretty good. … I don’t know if people are used to a certain figurehead. There’s something weird about it.

Huh. I would understand playing the race card if you were WINNING and got criticized but c’mon, look at the situation here. You’re in a results-driven business and you and your team are getting paid a lot of money to produce consistently. The only race this Mets fan cares about is the pennant race.
